Academic Awards at Cochrane High
Last year, we presented Honour Roll certificates and recognized students who demonstrated proficient academic achievement in their studies. Feedback from parents and students was very positive; many students reported how surprised they were to know they were on the Honour Roll at Cochrane High. Nearly 75% of students met the honour roll criteria last year which speaks to their commitment to excellence in their studies.
As we recognize the importance of academics at CHS, I am pleased to announce the addition of two new awards that will be presented to students at the end of the year. In addition to the Honour Roll (overall academic achievement in all courses) we also want to recognize students who excel in their academic courses. We will be adding the Principal’s Academic Award and the Principal’s Academic Award with Distinction.
We thought it was important to outline the criteria so that students can work towards this recognition throughout the year.
Honour Roll:
- Students who have a combined average of 80% on five of their eight courses over the year.
- Three of the five courses must be core courses. The other two may be options courses. This recognizes students who excel in courses outside of their core courses.
- The students will have no marks below 70%.
Principal’s Academic Award:
- Students will have an 80% average on their four core courses (ELA, Social, Math and their best Science class).
- No mark below 75% in any course taken during the school year.
Principal’s Academic Award with Distinction:
- Students will have a 90% average on their four core courses (ELA, Social, Math and their best Science class).
- No mark below 85% in any course taken during the school year.
We are looking forward to celebrating excellence in academic achievement with our students in June and encourage students to continue to commit to their studies.
