Material Covered:

As outlined in the Alberta Education Curriculum Document, we will be covering the topics shown in the table below.  Additional class periods will be spent on introduction topics at the beginning of the semester and review at the end of the semester.

Grading:

Required Materials (to bring to EVERY class):

• Pencil and eraser
• Graphing Calculator
• Textbook
• Laptop computer or another device with internet access capable of accessing the class website, your school email, and your school Google Drive files (please see me immediately if this is a problem for you)
• An organized workbook, preferably a three ring binder, for handouts, notes, and practice exercises

Course Expectations:

1. Attendance: ALL classes are important, whether we are doing a lesson, activity, quiz, test or review.  Every missed class is a missed opportunity to learn and will result in students putting in ample amounts of their own time to catch up.  Students are to tell me in advance of an upcoming absence and then to arrange a time to meet me prior to the absence in order to stay on top of the lessons.  With the exception of an illness documented by the office, students who miss class and do not inform me ahead of time will be expected to catch up on their own.
2. Website Access: It is expected that all students are aware of due dates, test dates, and daily assigned work.  To facilitate this, the class website will have all of this information and will be updated regularly.  The website should be accessed on a daily basis.
3. Use of Class Time: Students are expected to be ready to work when the bell rings to start class, to use all class time effectively, and to complete any unfinished work at home.  All assigned work is relevant and important, and practice is needed to become proficient.  All assignments must be completed.
4. Lates: Students who are continually late for class will spend flex time to make up time missed.
5. Extra Help: Extra help is available during flex period.   Any student who would like individual assistance should see me to book a time to come for help before or after school.  Individual assistance will be provided to any student who shows a good work ethic and who uses class time effectively (if you waste your own time during class, don’t expect me to use up my own time to get you caught up).
6. Homework: Any work not completed in class must be done outside of class time. Students are required to complete all assigned work.  Work should be submitted on the due date.  Late submissions may not be accepted after a reasonable time frame (one week) and alternative assignments may be given to make up the missing grades.
7. Missing Quizzes and Tests: Students must write all quizzes and tests. Students who miss a quiz or test will receive a mark of zero unless I have been notified in advance or the absence is excused through the office.  When necessary, quizzes/tests will be made up on a case-by-case basis.  School policy is in effect.

9. Technology: We will be using a number of different technologies throughout the course on a daily basis.  This topic will be covered in separate document.
10. Classroom Etiquette: All students are to be mature and respectful of each other and the teacher.  Students are expected to maintain a tidy and clean classroom.  Students may be asked to leave the room and/or report to the office if unable to meet these expectations.
