Prerequisite – Multimedia 10
Description – Students explore various media and examine their impact on personal,

community and national interests.

General Outcomes:

  1. Students will study various types of media and their impacts on the world around

    them.

  3. Students will demonstrate responsible & ethical behavior by working within

    school and community standards

Modules:
A. Com 1005 – Visual Composition (REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS)

a. Students learn to employ fundamental elements and principles of design for various media and gain a strong foundational multidisciplinary experience in preparation for other Communication Technology courses

B. Com1105–Audio/Video(PREREQUISITETOALL2000levelmodules)

a. Students acquire basic production skills, including planning, recording and editing, through the production of simple audio and/or video project using basic equipment and techniques.

i. Create an Idiom Public Service Announcement (PSA) C. Com2015–MediaImpact

a. Students explore different media forms and examine their impact on personal, community and national interests. Using various media, students will plan, create and present a simple message.

i. Create an advertising campaign for your Audio/Video project D. Com2105-Audio/VideoPre-Production1

a. Students examine the value and need for audio and video preproduction, and explore strategies used to plan an audio and/or a video project using a variety of techniques. Students understand that preproduction is stage one in the audio and video process.

i. Script, Storyboard, Props, Costumes, and Timeline E. Com2115–Audio/VideoProduction1

a. Students expand on basic audio and/or video production techniques with an emphasis on following a production plan, capturing content to edit and ensuring that continuity is maintained. Students understand that production is stage two in the audio/video process.

i. Video capture process with a focus on lighting, camera angle, panning, and zoom.

F. Com 2125 – Post Production 1
a. Students expand on basic audio and/or video production techniques with

an emphasis on following a plan, capturing content to edit and ensuring that continuity is maintained. Students understand that postproduction is stage three in the audio and video process.

i. Video editing and publishing.
G. Com 3005 - Creative Writing (Prerequisite: A/V Pre-Production 1)

a. Students focus on honing the techniques and skills involved in story development, character pre-visualization and conceptualization for various genres of media production.

i. Write a script for a 5 minute movie, webisode, or digital short H. Com3105-Audio/VideoPre-Production2

a. Students refine planning skills used in an audio and video project.
i. Advanced Script, Storyboard, Props, Costumes, and Timeline

I. Com 3115 – Audio Video Production 2
a. Students expand on intermediate audio and video production techniques.

i. Produce an advanced 5 minute movie, webisode, or digital short J. Com 3125 – Audio Video Post-Production 2

a. Students expand on digital editing software skills to edit and process audio and video, and continue working with motion graphics and audio/video effects to enhance a product.

i. Students edit their 5 minute movie, webisode, or digital short using professional software such as Final Cut.

K. Com3135-AudioTechniques
a. Students expand on audio production techniques to plan, develop and

produce specific audio projects.
i. Students edit their advanced Audio project

Assessment:

*Each module may contain assignments, quizzes, tests, and workstation routine marks
*Each student begins the semester with 10% for responsibility & ethical behavior. Students may lose marks based on unsafe or negligent behavior

Materials:

  • Students are to bring writing utensil and materials to every class

  • Students are encouraged to bring their own digital camera and uploading

    cord/device to every class

  • Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive (1 GB minimum) to every class

  • Students are encouraged to bring their own CD or DVD to burn their projects on

    at the end of the semester

    Expectations:

  • There will be zero tolerance on game playing during class

  • Students are not allowed to have any food or drink in the computer lab at

    any time

  • Please read and follow the School Code of Conduct found in your student handbook

  • Students are to adhere to the attendance policy as listed in the student handbook

o 4th absence = notification letter from office
o 8th absence = letter/email from teacher outlining plan for change,

potential meeting with guidance councilor
o 12th absence = administration meets with student, potentially placed

on high accountability

  • Students are expected to be on time for every class. A LATE becomes an

    ABSENT when a student arrives later than 30 minutes to a class
    o 3rd - 5th Late = Lunch Detention
    o 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, etc. = Meeting with Administration and Detention

  • Satisfactory attendance is required in ALL courses at CHS in order to fully participate in:

    o Graduation Cap and Gown Ceremony o Sports Teams
    o Performing Arts
    o Field Trips

    o School Clubs

  • Students are to review and follow the School policy on Electronic devices

    and Cell Phones in the Student Handbook

o ...class may not be disrupted by radios, recording devices, video

and still cameras...
o Cell phones are prohibited in the school, but must be put away and

TURNED OFF while in the classroom
• Personal Laptops will not be permitted for use in class. Hardware and

Software is frequently purchased for the students use in this course.
